Reused Items

Bottles

Finding creative ways to repurpose unwanted items: one of the important factors of Permaculture is to reuse items that would ordinarily be thought of as waste. This is something that we love to do at the homestead!

Above is the lock to our garden gate made out of an old dog collar that we simply reworked to hook at the right point of the branch...

These types of solutions are everywhere, and all it takes is some imagination...

Here are all kinds of Reused and Repurposed Items:

Bottles   Bottles
We soak Glass Bottles to remove their labels, and use them for edging and windbreak on the garden...
Shade   Tire
A shade teepee made out of sticks and Rubber Shelf Liner to keep a young seedling from getting too much Sun...   Planters made out of Old Tires. See our Tire Garden page.

Compost   Gate
Old Aquariums and Small Animal Cages as mini-greenhouse for seedlings during the Winter. This is a great solution if you have cats...   A handmade gate made out of old fencing, wire and branches.

Garden Wall   Path
Concrete Pieces repurposed for garden walls and paths. Why spend money on pre-made concrete block or path slate when broken concrete can be found along streets and highways everywhere?   Plastic Soda Cups can be cut apart and written on to label plants. So easy to do!

Plastic
A Plastic Bottle has its bottom cut off and used as a mini greenhouse
