| Recycling

Our
local municipality is tragically behind the times with regard to
recycling, but there are several local facilities that pay for recycling,
so we have made our own recycling area and take it in ourselves.
Plastic, aluminum and glass are easily collected, but we have also
made use of these materials in the home. |

| Plastic
Bottles

Plastic bottles
can serve as miniature greenhouses for seedlings. This is good for
winter, though once the Sun becomes too warm, it is best to use
green plastic so the plant won't overheat. |

| Glass
Bottles and Jars

Glass Bottles
and Jars are used and reused instead of buying bottled water and
generating more plastic waste. We distill our own water and keep
a number of bottles cold in the fridge. We bring them with us anywhere
we may need a bottle of water to drink. Jars are also easy to use
for keeping dry grains and beans...
We also use
glass bottles in the garden. See "Reused
Items" for more information"

Aluminum
Cans

Strips of aluminum
cans can be cut out and wrapped around the base of seedlings to
keep slugs at bay, as the slugs receive a galvanic shock from the
aluminum that repels them. No pesticide! |
